How to set up and use DevTrac

Everything from creating your account to what to do the moment a device goes missing. Can't find what you need? Contact support.

1. Create your account and add a device

  1. 1.Sign up for a free account — no card required for the 7-day trial.
  2. 2.From your dashboard, choose "Add device" and enter a label (e.g. "My Pixel") and the device's IMEI — dial *#06# on the phone to find it. Model is optional.
  3. 3.After submitting, you'll see a Device ID and a Pairing key shown once — keep this screen open, you'll need both values on the phone in the next step.

2. Install and pair the DevTrac app

  1. 1.Download the DevTrac Android app from the Download page and install it on the device you want to protect.
  2. 2.Open the app and enter the Device ID and Pairing key from step 1 exactly as shown.
  3. 3.The app will then walk you through location access, notification permission, and Device Admin access as separate steps, each with its own system prompt.

3. Grant Device Admin access (the important one)

  1. 1.This is what makes remote lock and wipe possible, and it's what lets tracking survive a factory reset attempt.
  2. 2.When the system dialog appears, tap "Activate" — this is Android's own confirmation screen, not something DevTrac controls.
  3. 3.If the dialog doesn't appear (this varies by phone manufacturer), the app shows a fallback button that opens Settings directly, so you can enable it manually from Security > Device admin apps.

4. Set up your panic alert contacts

  1. 1.From your dashboard sidebar, go to "Emergency contacts" and add one to three people — a name, phone number, and email for each.
  2. 2.This powers a one-tap panic button, not an automatic notification: to trigger it, long-press the DevTrac app icon on the phone's home screen and tap the "Panic" shortcut that appears.
  3. 3.It calls and texts your priority contact instantly from the phone's own SIM, with email and a WhatsApp link to every contact as backup. Set this up before you need it — there's no way to add contacts once you no longer have the phone.

5. If a device is ever stolen

  1. 1.Open your dashboard from any browser and select the device.
  2. 2.Check its current location on the live map, then use Remote lock immediately — this is instant and doesn't touch your data. Note: lock, wipe, and alarm require a Pro or Family plan; the free plan only includes on-demand "Locate now" requests.
  3. 3.Under "Incident" on the same page, either submit the "Report stolen" form or note if one already appeared automatically (a SIM-swap alert creates one for you), then click "Generate police report" — it pulls in the IMEI and last known location automatically.
  4. 4.If you're confident the device isn't coming back, use Remote wipe — it requires a separate confirmation click since it's permanent.

6. Understanding SIM-swap alerts

  1. 1.This is a Pro/Family feature. The first ping after pairing silently records the SIM as a baseline — you won't get a confirmation email for this step, that's expected.
  2. 2.If the SIM changes on any later check-in, you'll get an email titled "SIM changed on [device]", and the device's "Incident" panel will show a report you didn't submit yourself.

7. Managing your plan

  1. 1.Visit "Subscription" in your dashboard to see your current plan and device limit.
  2. 2.Upgrade with a card, or use "Pay by Direct Bank Transfer" if you'd rather send a transfer and upload a receipt — an admin reviews and activates it, usually within a day.
