Get alerted the moment your SIM is swapped
Swapping the SIM is often a thief's first move — a fast way to intercept two-factor codes before you've even realized the phone is gone. This is a Pro/Family feature, and it's worth knowing exactly how it activates, since the first step is intentionally silent.
Setup: automatic, and silent on purpose
There's no toggle to switch on. The first time your paired device sends a location ping with SIM information, DevTrac records that SIM as the baseline — quietly, with no confirmation email, since it's just establishing what's normal rather than reporting anything wrong. Don't expect a "SIM-swap protection enabled" email; the absence of one is normal.
What happens when a swap is detected
On any later check-in, if the SIM no longer matches that baseline, two things happen: an incident is created on the device (visible under "Incident" the same way a manually-reported theft is), and an email goes out immediately to the account's registered address with the subject "SIM changed on [device label]."
Where to find the alert
Two places: your inbox — check for a "SIM changed on [device]" email — and the device's own page in your dashboard, under "Incident." If that panel shows "Reported [time] ago" and you didn't submit the "Report stolen" form yourself, that's the SIM-swap trigger, not a manual report.
One important limit
This is a Pro or Family plan feature — on the free plan, the SIM is never fingerprinted or compared, so a swap won't generate an alert at all. If you're relying on this specifically, confirm your plan under Subscription in the dashboard.
What to do when you get the alert
Contact your carrier immediately to lock down the number, and treat any accounts using that number for two-factor authentication as potentially compromised until you've secured them separately.
