Setting Up a Panic Button Before You Need It
This is a safety feature, not a recovery feature
It's worth being precise about what this is: a button you press yourself, while you still have your phone, in a moment where you're actively at risk — a robbery, an unsafe situation, anywhere you need to reach someone fast. It's not something that fires automatically after a phone goes missing.
Why it's worth five minutes now
In the moment you'd actually need this, you won't want to be hunting for a contact's number or typing out a message. The whole point is that it's one tap, already configured, so the only thing standing between you and help going out is pressing the button.
Who to add
Pick people who'd actually pick up or check their phone immediately — a partner, a parent, a close friend — rather than an exhaustive list. Two or three reliable contacts beat ten who might not see it in time.
What happens when it's triggered
Your phone calls and texts your priority contact directly, immediately, over its own SIM — that part doesn't depend on an internet connection. Every contact also gets a follow-up email with your location as a backup, plus a one-tap WhatsApp link in case that reaches them faster.
Set it up now, from wherever you're reading this
This takes about two minutes: go to Emergency contacts in your dashboard and add a name, phone number, and email for each person. There's no downside to having it configured and never needing it — the downside only shows up the one time you need it and it isn't there.
