How to Find Your Phone's IMEI Number (Even If You've Lost It)

While you still have the phone

Dial *#06# on the keypad — the IMEI (or two, for dual-SIM phones) appears immediately, no menus required. On iPhone it's also under Settings > General > About; on Android, Settings > About phone > Status.

On the original box or receipt

The IMEI is printed on the barcode label on the original retail box, and often included on the purchase receipt or order confirmation email if you bought it online. Worth photographing this before you ever need it — it's exactly the kind of detail that's easy to find at home and nearly impossible to find in a hurry.

Through your carrier account

Most carriers list the IMEI for every device on your line under your online account's device or billing section, even ones you no longer physically have.

If none of those work

If you registered the device with DevTrac before it went missing, the IMEI is already on file and auto-fills into both the police report and any insurance claim — the reason it's worth registering a device on day one rather than waiting until something goes wrong.
