Setting Up DevTrac the Right Way: A 10-Minute Checklist
Why order matters here
Every feature covered in this checklist shares the same property: it does nothing if it's configured after a device is already gone. None of it is complicated, but skipping a step now means discovering the gap at the worst possible moment.
1–2 minutes: register the device
Add the device from your dashboard with its label and IMEI, then install and pair the app using the Device ID and pairing key shown.
2 minutes: grant device admin
This single permission is what makes remote lock and wipe possible at all, and what lets tracking survive a factory reset attempt. It's one tap on a system dialog during pairing.
2 minutes: add emergency contacts
Add one to three people who'd actually respond fast — this powers the panic button, and there's no way to add contacts from a phone you no longer have.
2 minutes: check your plan covers what you expect
Free covers tracking and on-demand location. Lock, wipe, alarm, and SIM-swap alerts are Pro/Family. Check your subscription now rather than discovering the gap during an actual emergency.
2 minutes: confirm everything actually fired
Use "Locate now" to confirm a fresh ping arrives, and check the device's page shows a real "Last seen" timestamp rather than "No signal yet." Ten minutes now buys real peace of mind — every one of these steps directly matters the one time it's actually needed.
